Well today we received a fantastic plastering testimonial from one of our clients. If you recall, we plastered a difficult ceiling on November 10th. Here’s what the lady had to say about the job we did:-
After months of staring at the hideous artex on our ceilings and botched plastering on our walls we’d had enough and decided to call in some expert help. Right from the get go Martin was fantastic. He helped us to plan the work we wanted doing, advised us on exactly what the process would be, before then working quickly and neatly to complete the work to a very high standard and well within budget. The only thing we wish we had done differently was not wait as long! Martin even accomodated our needs for some new bathroom floor tiles and skirting boards. The work has made a huge difference to our house and we are confident that when we decide to move it will give us the edge over our competition!
Mrs Wilson, Mobberley.
Testimonials like this really mean a lot to us and it just goes to show that it is worth going the extra mile. Many thanks to Mrs Wilson for taking the time to give us some feedback.
Last week we had to plaster over an artex ceiling….not just an ordinary artex ceiling though
. You can see what I mean when you see the first picture I took. There are curves and corners all over the ceiling as well as some deep old artex to get over too.
How do you plaster over these types of ceilings you might ask? Well, all the normal rules still apply but you need a few extra trowels and A LOT MORE PATIENCE! This ceiling took over three hours to plaster. To get into the corners, a midget trowel and brick-layers trowel were used. For external corners I just used my normal 14 inch trowel along with my wet brush.
I know quite a few plasterers who don’t like plastering these ceilings simply because it can be quite frustrating. Where you lay plaster on in one direction you often take it off in another but as I said, with some patience you’ll get there.
By the time I had finished the customers were delighted!
A shame the other lads didn’t want to have a go though!
We recently were asked to render an extension in Cheshire. We were told that the client wanted a a smooth but ’swirly’ effect. The client had already ordered some coloured render to match in with the existing stonework.
In order to get the right effect we used sponges on the hardened render. The client is very happy with the result! Just hope it dries to the right colour for him.
So here it is…my first blog and it’s going to be all about plastering. To a lot of people, plastering is considered to be an art form. It’s the one trade that most DIYers either have a go at and never try it again or they’re too afraid to have a go in the first place.
The fact is, plastering is just like any other job. It’s easy once you know how and just about ANYONE can be taught the basics of plastering in a very short space of time.
The secret to plastering is timing and speed. You can be taught the timing side of things, like when it is best to start troweling out. Speed is a different matter…it only comes with practice and lots of it!
Check out my website www.martins-plastering-services.co.uk for some idea as to the type of work we do. Hopefully, over the next few months I’ll be able to explain how plastering is done.
See you soon
Martin
